A building permit is the one place a pool builder has to write down, in public, that it's doing a job. Each one names the contractor and the value the contractor declares for the work. Add them up and you can see who actually builds pools here, not just who advertises.

The busiest builders

Counted from new pool permits only. Remodels, resurfacing and spa-only permits are left out. Replacing an old pool with a new one counts.

Typical value is the median of what each builder declared on its permits. Builders usually declare less than the contract price.

What stands out

  • Big isn't the same as well reviewed. Three of the five busiest builders sit under our 4.5 star bar on Google.
  • Some volume isn't homeowners hiring a builder. Pugh Pools' 49 permits are almost all lot pools in one new-home community, sold through the home builder.
  • Prices spread wide. Typical declared values run from under $50,000 to over $150,000 depending on the builder and the kind of work they take on.

The builders on our list

  • Dolphin Pools & Spas: 20 (Jupiter 12, Palm Beach Gardens 8)
  • Sunsational Pools & Spas: 19 (Jupiter 2, Palm Beach Gardens 17)
  • Abaco Pools: 6 (Jupiter 2, Palm Beach Gardens 4)
  • Champion Pools & Spas: 6 (Jupiter 1, Palm Beach Gardens 5)

Builders based in Tequesta or Martin County, like Almar Jackson, Abaco and CoastLife, build much of their work outside these two towns, so their counts here run low.

What's not in here yet

Tequesta and the unincorporated parts of the county, like Jupiter Farms, keep their permits behind systems we can't search. Those take a public records request, and we'll add them when they come in.
