Before you hire
The license fine print nobody reads
A pest company with a state license can still be barred from treating your termites. Here's what each company's license actually covers.
By Jack Bates ยท State records checked November 5, 2026
Florida licenses pest control in four separate categories: household pests and rodents, termites and other wood-destroying organisms, lawn and ornamental, and fumigation (tenting). A company can only legally do the work its license covers. Most homeowners never ask.

How to check any company yourself
- Pest control: ask for the business license number (it starts with JB) and look it up with the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. Ask which categories it covers.
- Pool builders: look up the license number (it starts with CPC) at myfloridalicense.com. The page also shows any public complaints.
